Fort Wayne City Council denies funding for Flock camera contract

On August 25, 2026, Fort Wayne City Council voted unanimously to deny funding for a $120,250 contract with Flock Group Inc. that would have allowed the police to continue using 36 license plate reader cameras. The vote followed a 5-4 initial rejection in May and public concerns about privacy, data retention, and civil liberties. Councilwoman Michelle Chambers changed her vote, saying she was not sufficiently confident in the company’s data protections. Councilman Russ Jehl said civil liberties are not easily regained once lost. The police department said it will respect the decision.
