Bastrop council votes to decommission Flock ALPR cameras
The Bastrop City Council voted unanimously to decommission the city’s 12 Flock Safety automated license plate reader cameras and terminate the agreement with Flock Safety. The vote approved Resolution R-2026-134. Council members also approved language requiring that any future ALPR technology come before the council for approval. Mayor Pro Tem John Kirkland proposed the change. Mayor Ishmael Harris previously cited privacy concerns and uncertainty about data access. The vote follows a decision last week to consider terminating the contract. The city’s contract had been set to renew in July 2027.
