Chula Vista Police Pause Flock Drone Contract Plan

Chula Vista Police paused a proposal to acquire Flock Safety automated drones, citing cost and privacy concerns. The deal would have cost the city $400,000 in its first year and $700,000 annually thereafter. The department had recommended Flock to the city’s Privacy Protection and Technology Advisory Commission in July. Officials said they are not moving forward with Flock’s automated drones for now and will keep using existing drones until alternatives are evaluated. The existing Drone as a First Responder program costs about $1.2 million per year with sworn officer pilots.
