On August 18, 2026, the Oxford City Council voted 6-1 to terminate its contract with Flock Safety for automated license plate reader cameras. The council amended a resolution to change the wording from “maintain” to “terminate.” The city had already paid $48,000 for the year, with the contract ending in February 2027. Councilors cited privacy concerns and potential misuse of data. Councilor Bill Snavely said he worried other agencies might misuse collected data, and Mayor Mike Smith said he did not trust the company.
