North Liberty City Council terminates Flock Safety contract

The North Liberty City Council voted 3-1 to terminate its contract with Flock Safety, deactivating all purchased automated license plate readers. The contract began in July 2024 and renewed automatically in 2026 for a term covering July 2026 to July 2028. The city can terminate the contract in March 2027 after sharing its 2027 budget; Flock will remove cameras 30 days after termination, with removal expected by summer 2027. The council called the decision a $36,000 decision. The city police department stopped sharing data and deactivated user accounts.
