Leander City Council discontinues Flock services
On September 3, 2026, the Leander City Council instructed staff to suspend use of the police department’s 14 Flock license-plate cameras and to discontinue funding its Flock contract. The decision followed a public hearing lasting over an hour in which dozens of residents raised privacy and security concerns. The cameras had been installed in summer 2025 and the department said they helped solve crimes such as shootings and robberies. The city had applied for a $236,000 federal grant, of which $50,000 was intended for cameras.
