Lynnwood cancels Flock license plate reader contract

In February 2026, the Lynnwood City Council voted unanimously to cancel its contract with Flock Safety for license plate reader cameras. The cameras, disabled since October, had been the subject of a University of Washington report revealing unauthorized access by out-of-state and federal agencies, including U.S. Border Patrol. Council member Isabel Mata noted that more than 50 people testified in person against the system. The city originally approved the contract in January 2025.
