Sacramento Police Department Found Sharing ALPR Data with Out-of-State Agencies

The Sacramento County Grand Jury’s 2023-2024 report found that the Sacramento Police Department shares automated license plate reader (ALPR) data with law enforcement agencies in Washington, Oregon, Nevada, and Arizona. The Grand Jury concluded this practice violates California Senate Bill 34, which prohibits sharing ALPR data with out-of-state entities. The report notes that SPD representatives met with the Attorney General’s staff to discuss compliance, but the Grand Jury still concluded that SPD is not complying with SB 34.
